Hands-free baby bottle: how does it work and how to use it well?

Pushing the pram, carrying a bag, looking after an older child… Baby rarely asks for a bottle when your hands are free. The hands-free baby bottle solves this little everyday puzzle. Here is how it works, when it really helps, and the rules to keep in mind.

How does a hands-free baby bottle work?

The principle is simple: instead of being screwed directly onto the bottle, the teat is connected to it by a long soft tube. The bottle can rest next to baby, and the tube carries the milk up to the teat.

  • The tube goes down to the bottom of the bottle and up to the teat.
  • The teat works like a classic teat: baby drinks at their own pace.
  • The air vent in the ring lets air in while baby drinks.
  • On some models, like our 3 in 1, a small weighted ball keeps the end of the tube at the bottom of the bottle, even when it is tilted.

When is it useful?

A hands-free bottle does not replace cuddles during feeds. It helps when your hands are busy, while you stay beside baby:

  • on walks, baby in the pram, you right beside them;
  • at home, when you also need to look after an older child;
  • in your arms, the bottle tucked in your bag, both arms for baby.

Using it well, step by step

  1. Wash all parts before first use, then after each feed.
  2. Prepare the milk as usual, just before the feed.
  3. Screw on the ring with the tube and check that the teat and tube are in good condition.
  4. Settle baby in a semi-upright position, never lying flat.
  5. Stay beside them for the whole feed and remove the teat as soon as they have finished or fall asleep.

Safety rules never to forget

A hands-free bottle frees your hands, not your supervision. Always use it under adult supervision, with baby awake and in a semi-upright position. Never leave baby alone or asleep with the bottle, and do not use the bottle to put baby to sleep. Replace the teat and tube at the first sign of wear.

Simple or 3 in 1?

Our hands-free baby bottle comes in two versions, in blue or pink:

  • Simple: 240 ml, with its long tube and a teat protected by a cap;
  • 3 in 1: 300 ml, which also becomes a classic bottle or a milk storage bottle, with a cleaning brush.
